About Us

Irieginal – makes you feel IRIE

Irieginal – The meaning

Meaning Irieginal

Irieginal = Irie + Original

Irie is a word from Jamaican (Patois) and means "free", "happy" or "being content with oneself".

In this context, "original" signifies that everyone is unique. Truly an original.

Irieginal – Origin & Founders

Who is behind Irieginal?

Sebastian Kuhs, founder of Irieginal (see picture)

How Irieginal came about:

My passion for Jamaican culture, stylish streetwear, and design laid the foundation. I was looking for stylish, high-quality streetwear that represented Jamaican culture and its positive outlook on life. However, I couldn't find anything that suited my taste. That's how the idea for Irieginal was born!

My stays and experiences in Jamaica and 6 years of experience in the streetwear trade, with my online shop reggae-wear.com, provided the finishing touches to found Irieginal in Detmold in 2019.

What's important to me about Irieginal:

First and foremost, the designs and their message are paramount. We want to bring IRIE vibes to your home. Every piece of artwork is created with meticulous attention to detail and a message behind it. You can read the message for each shirt on the product pages.

Every piece should be enjoyable, and that requires high-quality clothing. It should be comfortable, feel good, fit well, and be durable. Nothing less is our standard.

One aspect that was clear from day one: it should be sustainable streetwear . Nothing in the direction of "fast fashion"! Environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing, fair production conditions, and plastic-free and climate-neutral delivery.

Irieginal – inspired by Jamaican Culture

For many years, I, Sebastian (founder of Irieginal), have been immersed in Jamaican culture: It started with an interest in dancehall/reggae music and quickly developed into a passion for Jamaican culture itself. My stays in Jamaica left a lasting impression on me. Especially away from the tourist areas, I was able to experience Jamaican life firsthand. From urban life in Kingston, the contrasts between uptown and downtown, to daily life in the Blue Mountains without electricity or running water, to life in small towns and villages like Treasure Beach—however diverse and challenging life may have been, there was always a positive energy and joy of life. It is precisely these good vibes that we want to share with Irieginal.

We have the utmost respect and appreciation for Jamaican culture! Therefore, we would like to give something back and support the charity organization HELP Jamaica! eV as a supporting member.

sustainability

Sustainable streetwear

Sustainability plays a central role for us. We want you to be able to shop at Irieginal with a clear conscience, without having to worry about it. We ensure that our products are manufactured in an environmentally friendly, sustainable, and fair manner.

What does that mean exactly?

We use only organic cotton for our textiles. This is significantly more environmentally friendly and resource-efficient than conventional cotton. The textiles are printed or embroidered in the EU (printing: Germany / embroidery: Slovakia).

Besides the material, the production conditions also play an important role. Here, we work with a reliable partner who operates exclusively factories certified by the Fair Wear Foundation and regularly inspected.

The whole thing is then packaged without plastic and delivered to your home in a climate-neutral manner.
